چکیده

A multiphysics model based on the finite element method was adopted, emphasizing a deeper insight into rarely studied crevice corrosion behavior of stainless steel and titanium overlapping. The takes account damage due to inside crevice, different species transportation, local electrochemical reactions, homogeneous reactions in electrolyte, formation product its influence reaction. simulation results show that location greatest attack for is at opening; this finding consistent with IR drop theory. potential increases gradually from tip opening current changes smoothly following sharp rise opening. minimum maximum values pH Cl− concentration are both middle crevice. size also discussed detail.

The Inhibition Effect of Polyethylenimine (PEI) on Pitting Corrosion of 304 Austenitic Stainless Steel in 3.5% NaCl Solution

One of the problems in the case of stainless steels is their low corrosion resistance against pitting corrosion in chloride containing environments, thereby leading to severe damage to industries. In this research, the pitting corrosion of 304 austenitic stainless steel was studied in 3.5% NaCl solution at room temperature (25˚C) by performing electrochemical measurements (containing cyclic pol...

Combining the Ohmic Drop and Critical Crevice Solution Approaches to Rationalize Intermediate Attack in Crevice Corrosion

Crevice corrosion material loss is often most severe at intermediate distances into the crevice. This intermediate attack can be rationalized using the ohmic drop model of Pickering if and only if the material in question exhibits active/passive behavior in the crevice environment. Conventional theories that ascribe control of crevice corrosion to chemical changes exclusively cannot rationalize...

Effect of ageing heat treatment on corrosion behaviorof 17-4 PH stainless steel in 3.5% NaCl

The 17-4PH alloy is a martensitic stainless steel with 3–5 wt% Cu, strengthened by the precipitation hardening. Due to excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and ease of heat treatment, this alloy has unique applications in nuclear power plants and marine constructions. In this paper, the influence of ageing heat treatment, solution annealing followed by ageing at 480, 550 and 62...

Electrochemical assessment of imidazole derivatives as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 3.5 NaCl solution

The corrosion inhibition efficiency of benzimidazole, 2-methylbenzimidazole and 2- aminobenzimidazole for mild steel immersed in 3.5 NaCl solution was investigated by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS at concentration range from 10-5 to 10-2 M of imidazoles and temperature range from 30 to 50°C. In addition, DC polarization was examined to determine inhibition mechanism at concentratio...
